Today I just want to talk on basics of Fashion & its Terminology.

Fashion is a general term for a popular style or practice especially in clothing, footwear, accessories, make-up, body piercing or furniture.

Fashion also refers to a distinctive and often habitual trend in the style with which a person dresses, as well as prevailing styles in behavior.

Fashion also refers to newest creations in textiles, footwear, accessories, make-up, furniture etc.

Fashion is also referred to Universal language of every soul.

Fashion Season is defined as either

AUTUMN/WINTER   AW

OR

SPRING/SUMMER    SS

Types of Fashion

HAUTE COUTURE  (High Fashion)

PRET-A-PORTER (Ready to Wear) RTW

MASS MARKET Ready to wear garments available in large quantities and cheap.

Apparels available in following Segments:

MEN’S WEAR, WOMEN’S WEAR, CHILDREN WEAR

FASHION CAPITALS

TIPS FOR FORMAL MEN’S WEAR

A clean, pressed two-piece matching suit is essential

Safe suit colors options are: black, dark grey, dark brown, or navy

Shirt should be long-sleeve in colors like: white, yellow, blue, green or black depending on suit color

Tie should be silk material and complement the color of the suit and shirt. The pattern should be simple like stripes or a solid color

Shoes should be either dark brown or black leather dress shoes with dark socks

TIPS FOR FORMAL WOMEN’S WEAR

Wear a two-piece suit in dark colors: 2 options:

Pants and a jacket or a knee-length skirt and a jacket

Wear both options with a conservative blouse and dark tights if it’s fall or winter

A moderate closed-toe heel in black, grey, or brown

Accessories can dress up any suit (i.e. a necklace, colorful scarf, belt, watch, etc.)

There also can be Indian Wear as Formal Women’s Wear options:

A Saree with matching or contrasting blouse, accessories to suit the saree.

Salwar Suit with Jacket or Dupatta but has to give a formal look with highlighting or matching accessories.

FASHION TERMINOLOGY

I hope basics of Fashion are now clear to all, let us have questions, if any? And in my next blog something interesting on Body types and Dressing.
